Introduction to Competition Coaching Course

An Introduction to Competition Coach is qualified to assume the responsibilities of a head coach with skaters in Learn to Train (~9-12 years old) and Train to Train (~12-16 years old) stages of development.

Where:  Saint Thomas University (51 Dineen Dr, Fredericton, NB) – Sir James Dunn Hall: Room G6

When: September 21st 10am-6pm

September 22nd 8:30am-4pm

The schedule for the weekend will be:

Saturday

10:00-11:00 Introduction
11:00-12:00 Planning a Practice
12:00-12:30 Lunch
12:30-3:30* Planning a Practice (Cont.)
3:30-6:00* Technical

*Breaks at 2:30 and 4:30

Sunday

8:30-10:00 Equipment
10:00-12:00* Tactics
12:00-12:30 Lunch
12:30-3:00* Analyze Performance
3:00-4:00 Conclusion

*Breaks at 10:30 and 2:30

The course will be led by Derrick Macleod (SSNB High Performance Coach) and co-facilitated with Scott Beamish (SSNB Technical Director/Provincial Coach) and Sarah Taylor (SSPEI Technical Director).

This course will go through speed skating specific material only. To gain full certification as an intro to comp coach you will have to complete the multisport modules on your own. Upcoming workshops can be found at https://www.coach.ca/
