Every Kid deserves a Certified Coach”

Fundamental Leader Course as per Speed Skating Canada description:

FUNdamentals Leader is ideal for anyone looking to get involved in coaching and learn more about the sport. This context allows coaches to work as an instructor or assistant coach with skaters in the Active Start, FUNdamentals or Learning to Train stages of development, as well as with skaters in Learn to Skate and Learn to Speed Skate programs.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

·         Workshop (8.5 hours)

·         Minimum Age: 14 years old

Introduction to Competition

The Introduction to Competition certification is for coaches prepared to provide developing skaters with the basic skills necessary for successful competition, with an emphasis on technical development and seasonal practice plan design. With this certification level, one can assume the responsibilities of head coach for skaters in the Learning to Train and Training to Train stages of development.

This 32 Hour (total) workshop covers various topics and builds on a coach’s previous training and experience.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

·         Workshops and Modules (@32 hours) – Includes Multisport and Sport Specific listed below

·         Coach Portfolio

·         On-Ice Evaluation (1)

·         Minimum Age:16 years old

Sport-Specific Modules for Certification (presented by Speed Skating Facilitator):

–          Introduction (1 hr) – first module

–          Technique (2 hr)

–          Equipment (2hr)

–          Strategy and Tactics (2 hr)

–          Analyze Performance (3 hr)

–          Wrap up and Conclusion – final Module

Anyone interested in doing sport-specific courses and modules can contact Jamie (SSNB.TDPC@gmail.com) or Derrick (Derrick.MacLeod@Rogers.com). Currently, we are awaiting updated Fundamental leader and Introduction to Competition sport-specific module packages from Speed Skating Canada in order to deliver these courses. This will likely not occur until Spring 2023. In the meantime, Coaches can register for Multisport Workshops and modules anytime via the locker (Above in Red)
